On January 20, 2026, FAW-Volkswagen announced the production of its 10 millionth EA888 engine. This latest fifth-generation power unit features Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG) technology, originally derived from Porsche, combined with a 500-bar ultra-high-pressure direct injection system. VTG effectively solves the high exhaust temperature challenges of gasoline engines while significantly improving low-end response and fuel economy. This milestone marks a new height for domestic mass-produced engines in turbocharging technology.
